What is rosacea?
Couperose, or rosacea, is characterized by redness on certain areas of the face: the cheeks, the nose and sometimes the chin. She particularly affects people with fair complexions.
First, the small blood vessels of the face dilate, suddenly going from cold to hot and giving fire to the cheeks, this is the flush.
Over time and by dint of aggression, the small vessels lose their elasticity and the diffuse redness becomes permanent.
Then, the vessels end up forming small red threads on the wings of the nose, the cheeks or the chin.
What types of skin are affected by rosacea?
Rosacea concerns thin and hypersensitive skin whose fragility of the capillaries, the finest vessels in the body, can no longer regulate facial temperature.
These capillaries have to constantly adapt to the environment and act as a veritable thermostat. Thus, they undergo significant variations in diameter to regulate blood flow according to temperature and may eventually burst and become visible under the skin.
How to treat rosacea?
In the mild stage, when redness occurs episodically, certain simple measures will prevent it from becoming permanent. If rosacea is installed with permanent redness, the phenomenon is irreversible and targeted care limits the aesthetic damage.
At the stage of the red filaments, regression is no longer possible, only laser or electrocoagulation treatments can make them disappear. Prevention is therefore essential in order to avoid the exacerbation of symptoms.
What are the triggers?
There are different phenomena that declare rosacea such as:
- The wind and the cold
- Temperature differences
- The sun and the heat
- Stimulants (coffee, alcohol, tobacco)
- Very hot dishes or drinks and spicy foods
- The stress
- Hormonal factors of menopause
