Delphine makes her candles by hand, in his workshop in Allauch, in Provence. She wants to give back to the candle its nobility of yesteryear with p100% natural quality products, to captivating smells reminiscent of Provence. Its candles are made of natural beeswax, soy wax and vegetable oil. Their odors are due to perfumes from Grasse, sans CMR nor phthalates. It uses wooden wicks for combustion as these extend the life of the candle for more than 50 hours of combustion!

What is his story ?

It was during the first confinement that Delphine decided to dedicate part of her free time to new activities. by nature very creative and manual, she loves to create new things and she has always loved candles. She then decided to make her first craft candles and to offer them to his relatives who recommend him to market them. Indeed, the high quality candles, aesthetics and scents worth the detour! This is how she began to sell her candles in Plan de Cuques, near Marseille. For more than 2 years, she has been making scented candles, fondants and pebbles by hand, with love, for share the scents of Provence around her.

How to properly use your candle?

Have you ever had your candle wick run out and you still have a lot of wax left? That a "crater" forms in the center of the candle and the edges don't melt? There are many tricks for consume well his candle so that all the wax burns properly.

First you must respect the liquefaction of the spark plug. The first burn of your candle is critical to its lifespan! The first time you turn on your candle, be sure to leave it between 2 and 4 a.m. so that the all of the wax is liquid and that there is no small crater forming in the center of the candle. This will allow a homogeneous fusion of the candle so that the combustion continues correctly when you relight your candle. Thus, all the wax will gradually consume so as not to leave a good part of the wax on the walls of the candle!

Then, it must be ensured that the wooden wick sits well above the wax. Delphine recommends that the wick be always between 6 and 8 millimeters above wax level. So don't hesitate to cut the wick before use if it is too long or already consumed. This will prevent the formation of soot and therefore poor combustion.

Last step to best consume your candle, turn it off properly. Did you know you don't have to blow out a candle to put it out? It is best to "quench" the candle by covering with a flammable lid (in metal, glass, etc.). This will prevent the wick from sooting into the wax.

What is the recipe for making a candle?

There is no exact recipe for all candles, each candle is unique depending on the mixture used to make it. Delphine, for example, took 2/3 months to find the perfect mix for his candles! After these months of research, she decided to make her candles with:

  • beeswax 100% natural, she chose it because she consumes more slowly
  • soy wax, vegetable and biodegradable
  • Of sweet almond oil which prevents the wax from shrinking
  • Of the perfumed oils from Grasse for the fragrance because they are 100% sans CMR, without phthalates or animal matter
  • A wood wick for a combustion optimale, and for the soft crackling of the wood fire when it burns down which immerses us in a cozy universe
  • Of the flowers picked and dried by hand to decorate and bring a unique touch to each candle.

Delphine created according to his moods, the season and his inspiration. This gives unique scented candles and pebbles, and absolutely gorgeous.

Want to create your own candles?

To make a candle you need:

  • Of wax, you can use wax shavings or make it yourself, it gives hardness to the candle.
  • of a fat body to soften waxes and facilitate melting, this can be a vegetable oil or a butter a choice.
  • D’essential oils or natural fragrances according to your tastes for delicately scent your candle so that it smells pleasant. Caution: Be sure to use alcohol-free fragrances!
  • Of the pigments or dyes, if you want to give a particular color to your candle. You can use plant powders, colored vegetable oils...
  • of a silicone mold or a candle glass (tempered glass to resist heat)
  • of a cotton wick and its metal base
  • aluminum foil
  • With a whip
  • And a kitchen scale

start with heat your wax in a bain-marie, low heat. Once the wax has melted, remove it from the heat and prime your wick. To do this, dip it in hot wax and place it straight on your aluminum foil. Let it cool in the freezer, leaving it on the aluminum foil.

Add to your melted wax: your fatty substance (oil or butter), your fragrance and your pigments. And mix with your whisk to obtain a homogeneous wax to your liking.

Take your wick out of the freezer and place it in the hole of its metal base. You can tighten this hole with a chisel so that the wick fits well in its holder. Then place it in your glass or your silicone mould.

Add your wax and let it harden. You can put it in the freezer for a few minutes to harden faster.

And there you have it, you have made your own candle! This can be a great idea for a family activity, with friends or even with your sweetheart!
